Description: Presented is a very interesting pair of antique Dutch first standard silver serving tongs, dated 1836. These tongs are very cleverly designed such that the two 'arms,' a large size spoon and fork, can be separated and used individually, as for mixing salad or the like. The exterior of both pieces at the top of the handles has a monogram of EvR. This piece is in excellent overall condition. As we point out in the eighth photo, there is a small ding to the bowl of the spoon side of the tongs. There are no splits, no dents, no breaks, no monograms, and no repairs. This piece is stamped with the Dutch hallmark of a lion rampant for first standard silver, which guarantees a purity of at least 934, as well as a maker's mark, the date letter B for 1836, and the duty mark of Minerva's head in profile with the letter A for the Amsterdam assay office. The marks are stamped on both arms of the tongs. Both “arms” are about 12 inches long. This piece weighs 192 grams or 6.8 regular ounces. -jm Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
