Description: PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDED WITH EVERY ORDER! Gentian Stemless (Gentiana Acaulis) - 50 Seeds Description:Start Gentian seeds for this lovely perennial herb. Known as Stemless Gentian, Trumpet Gentian or Blauer Enzian, this herb plant typically is found growing in acidic soils. The second botanical name is Gentiana kochiana. The Stemless Gentian herb height is only 4 inches tall and it spreads 6 inches or more. The leaves are evergreen, grow from a basal rosette, and form clumps. The blue flowers are trumpet-shaped and have olive-green spotted throats. The Trumpet Gentian herb likes full sun, is fully hardy, and flowers in late spring and summer. Medicinal Properties:Gentian is good for weak and/or painful digestion, loss of appetite, nausea, slow peristalsis, low vital energy, liver heat, detoxification, and acne. As a bitter tonic, gentian is taken 15-30 minutes before meals, usually in combination with other herbs. It has also been indicated for anemia, anorexia, and poor circulation. It is used as an anti-addiction herb (for instance, to stop smoking). Modern research shows that gentian has immune-activating properties, and it is commonly given to people who are recovering from long-term illnesses to improve assimilation of nutrients, energy levels, and immune function. (1) Planting Instructions:Gentian seeds require some patience in getting them to germinate. There are two recommended methods for starting the seed. First method, in the spring, mix the herb seeds in a moist growing medium, place in a freezer bag, then stratify by refrigeration for two months. Second method, in the fall place the Gentian seeds in starter trays with seed starter mix that has been moistened. Cover the trays with glass or plastic to help keep the moisture in. Place the trays in a cold frame outdoors or place the flat in a protected area outdoors. Gentian seedlings can be transplanted into their permanent place either in spring or fall. Gentian plants require moist, humus soil that drains well.
