Description: Here's an antique silver plate tongs for asparagus, made by Christofle. I don't know much about antiques or silver, but I looked up the maker's hallmark which is stamped near the hinge (you can see it in the last pic... there are two "C"s and a balance scale between). According to Christofle's site, the balance scale stamp was used from 1844 to 1935. The online Encyclopedia of Silver Marks, Hallmarks, and Makers' Marks also shows the double "C" with the scale from 1844 to 1935. (Sometime during 1935, the letters changed to "O" and "C".) So I'm pretty sure these tongs are from 1935 or most likely earlier. They're in very good condition, and have been in storage for years. I've not tried to clean or polish them, to avoid doing any damage. Take a look at my stellar feedback, and check out my other listings. I'll be adding more antiques and vintage. Thanks for looking!
