Description: BOTTLE GENTIAN- aka Andrews Gentian / Closed Gentian / Snakeroot. Bottle Gentian is a slow growing, long lived perennial native to the mid-west and northeast. Bottle Gentian can only be pollinated by bumble bees. They are the only pollinator strong enough to pry open the flowers and get to the nectar and pollen. These get about 2ft tall and 1ft wide. Bloom time is late summer through fall. Full sun, part sun or shade. 300+ seeds per order. Some American Native Wildflower seeds need to go through a cold winter to germinate. This plant is one of them. They do this so the seed won’t sprout in fall, only to have the seedling not make it through a cold winter. I have stratified these seeds to simulate a cold winter(stratification) This raises the germination rate considerably. Thanks for looking!!Gentiana andrewsii. Perennial. Full Sun / Part Sun / Shade. Spring, soil 65F+. SOW- Press 5/6 seeds per into soil, don't cover. (Needs light to germ) Keep moist. Germination-Slow- 21-28 Days or more. Thin to single best seedling. Use scissors to cut out unwanted sprouts. Medium water. Height 2ft x 1ft wide. Flowers are blue. Blooms from late summer through fall. NOTE- Gentian are slow growers, but long lived. They may not bloom until year 2 or 3.
