Beautiful Central Vignette of a Train Emerging from a Viaduct. The bank was organized in 1852 as a free bank and remained in business until the bank decided to voluntarily close its doors in 1859. Remaining stocks of notes were burned and the printing plates destroyed. By 1864 the outstanding circulation was a miniscule $1,150 with redemption guaranteed by the Mutual Bank of Castleton. The $20 design features a widely used passenger train vignette of which there were several versions.
